Oak Hill took seven wrestlers to Semi-State on Saturday in Ft. Wayne. Wrestlers J.C. Herring (106), Travis Davenport (126) and Owen Perkins (285) each advanced to State Finals next Friday. Owen Perkins is the first wrestler in Oak Hill history to win the Semi-State tournament. David Keown was a Semi-State runner-up in the 185 pound weight class in the 1976-77 season. He is the only Semi-State runner-up at Oak Hill.
The only other time that Oak Hill has had three individuals qualify for the State Finals was in the 2004-05 season when Evan Pence (125), Craig Rosman (135), and Tony Fuller (171) qualified.
This is the second time that Owen Perkins has qualified for the State Finals. He qualified as a freshman in the 2013-14 season.
The Oak Hill team finished 7th in the final standings. with 45.0 points.
Eastbrook took five guys, most in school history, to Semi-State. Mathew Oswalt, Christian Bratcher, Alex Guy, Garrett Bradley, and Luke Elliott. Christian Bratcher won his first round match but ended up losing in the round to go to state to the very strong Eicker of Leo. Luke Elliott wrestled very well through out the day knocking off his first two opponents which advanced him to the state finals. Luke then was then able to pick up a first period pin over returning state qualifier Evans of Delta. This took him into the finals where he lost a very close match to Maddox of Daleville.
Marion’s DeAndre Hodge also advanced to State Finals.
