The Oak Hill Lady Golden Eagles basketball team cruised to an easy 56-26 win over Peru in the season opener for both teams Friday night at Oak Hill.
In the first quarter both teams tried to shake off the early season rust before the Tigers scored a free throw at 5:38 to take a 1-0 lead. Oak Hill then responded with a 11 to nothing run that would push them in front by ten 11-1 to close the quarter.
The second quarter is where the Eagles would use their defense to take control of the game. The use of a full court press led to several Oak Hill steals and easy baskets on the offensive end. Behind their strong defensive effort the home team extended the lead to 25-9 by halftime.
In the second half Peru would attempt to come back but would get no closer than 37-21 at the end of the third quarter. The Eagles had a total of 22 steals on the way to the easy 56-26 victory. Sophomore Kaela Robey led Oak Hill in scoring while freshman Taylor Westgate and sophomore Jenessa Hasty added 12 and 11 points respectively. Westgate also grabbed eight rebounds and Robey dished out five assists t o lead the team. Senior Drew Thompson led Peru in scoring with 12 points
In the junior varsity contest Oak Hill won 30-11 over Peru. Oak Hill was led in scoring by sophomore Kristin Dubois with 10 points. Junior Sarah Wood and sophomore Ajua Smith added six points each.
