6-0!! Oak Hill extended their winning streak to start six games with a 47-40 win over Southwood in girls basketball Tuesday night.
In the first quarter the Knights used hot three point shooting to jump out to early 7-2 lead.The treys continued to fall in the opening period as Southwood stretched its lead to 14-8 going to the second quarter. In the second quarter Oak Hill used hot shooting of their own behind sophomore Jenessa Hasty who tossed in 11 points as the Golden Eagles used a 19-11 surge to take the halftime lead at 27-25.
In the third the shooting turned as cold as the weather outside as the two combined for only eight points total. Despite the apparent lid on the basket, Oak Hill managed to outscore Southwood 6-2 to grab a 33-27 advantage. The final quarter was an even struggle before the Knights had a 6-2 spurt to close with two points at 40-38. Oak Hill’s defense clapped down on the Knights in the final minutes to close out the game on a 7-2 run to seal the 47-40 victory. Hasty paced the Eagles with 16 points freshman Taylor Westgate added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Kristin Dubois dished out five assists and sophomore Adrianna Trexler swiped three steals. Seniors Ashley Parson and Brooke Elliott led Southwood in scoring with 14 points each.
In the junior varsity game Oak Hill captured the 38-29 win behind Ajua Smith’s 10 points.
Oak Hill will host Manchester in their next contest on Saturday. Southwood drops to 2-2 on the season and will host Madison-Grant on November 28th.
