Eastbrook, Mississinewa, Oak Hill and Marion competed in track sectionals at IWU on Thursday evening.
The Mississinewa Boys (5th place) and Girls (4th place) track had a strong showing in their respectable Sectional Tournaments. Both teams claimed 2 Sectional titles while advancing a total of 13 athletes in 12 events.
Carli Fones was the Sectional Champion in the 100m (12.87) and the 200m (26.62). Also qualifying for Regionals were Haleigh Skeens who placed 2nd in the long jump (15’ 8”), Beth Lucas placed 2nd in the 300 hurdles (47.35) and 3rd in the 100 hurdles (17.34). Skeens, Lucas, and Fones teamed up with Alayna Webb to place 2nd in the 4×100 relay (51.64). While qualifying to regionals school records were set by Lucas in the 300 low hurdles and the 4×100 relay team. Aurora Fisher is also advancing to regionals in the 3200m.
The boys team was lead by Heisman Skeens who was Sectional Champion in the 200m (22.51) and is also advancing to Regionals by placing 3rd in the long jump (21’ 1”). Sectional Champion Brennan Butche won the 3200m (9:34.32) and also anchored the regional qualifying 4×800 relay to a new school record. Other members on the school record 4×800 relay (8:23.39) were Jacob Ehmer, Zak Huffman, and Cory Quakenbush. The 4×400 relay (3:33.52) consisting of Josh O’Connell, Elijah Standridge, Andre Sallade, and Quakenbush qualified to Regionals by placing 3rd in Sectionals.
