Oak Hill continued its winning streak to start the season with a convincing 33-13 win over Manchester in girls basketball action Saturday night.
Early in the game the two teams seemed to be testing and probing the defenses carefully, but Oak Hill captured a slim two point 8-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Golden Eagles started to assert their will defensively in the second period to extend the lead to six at 12-6. Manchester fought to stay close behind the efforts of senior Cierra Carter who tallied six points in the opening half, but Oak Hill still held a seven point edge at the halftime at 17-10.
If Eagles had used a tough defense in the first two quarters, then their zone defense was even more stifling in the third period. Despite their best efforts to generate some offense, the Squires were held to zero points in the quarter!! Yes, a shutout for the whole eight minutes of the quarter. At the same Oak Hill had their best offensive output of the game with 13 points behind the inside play of freshman Taylor Westgate and outside shooting of junior Kristin Dubois. The 13-0 run in the quarter gave the Golden Eagles a commanding 30-10 lead headed to the final stanza. In the fourth quarter there appeared to be a lid on the basket at both ends at the teams combined to score a total of six points. Each team managed only three points as Oak Hill cruised to the 33-13 victory. Westgate led the Eagles with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Dubois chipped in seven points and two steals, while Sophomore Kaela Robey added three assists and two steals. Carter led Manchester with eight points.
Oak Hill was victorious In the junior varsity game 21-18. Sophomore twin sisters Marissa and Andrea Wilk led the Eagles in scoring with eight points and six points each.
Oak Hill will take their 7-0 record to Elwood on Friday in CIC conference play. Manchester’s record drops to 6-2 and their next game is at Northfield on Saturday.
