Defense! Defense! Defense! There was plenty of defense at Oak Hill Saturday night as the home team was victorious over visiting Eastbrook 40-32 in a CIC girls basketball clash.
Going into the game both had defensive averages close to 40 points. Add that this was a matchup of grant county rivals and the low score was the result. The opening quarter started with the shooting being as cold as the weather outside as the teams combined for only eight points and the Lady Eagles emerged with a 5-3 lead. In the second quarter the offense warmed up a little bit as Oak Hill used 12-6 run to grab an eight advantage at 17-9. Eastbrook responded with two quick buckets to close to within 17-13 at the halftime break
The tough, tight defense continued in the second half as both teams struggled to produce points. In the third quarter Oak Hill would grind out only 10 points, but would use solid defense that created several steals and push their lead to six 27-21 at the end of the third quarter. In the final period, defense dominated once again as Oak Hill forced more turn overs and held Eastbrook to 11 points in route to the 42-32 win. Freshman Janesssa Hasty was the only double figure scorer of the night leading Oak Hill with 10 points.
Oak Hill is now on a 5 game win streak and moves their record to 14-5 and 3-3 in the C.I.C. They will host North Miami on Tuesday night. Eastbrook falls to 12-5 and 3-2 in the C.I.C. They will host Adams Central next Tuesday.
Courtney Haynes and Kaley Kitts scored 9 points each for the Panthers. Abbie Gressley and Amanda Marrs each had 6 points. Abbie Gressley had 4 steals and Courtney Haynes had 7 rebounds.
