In the opening basketball game of the season for both teams Oak Hill rolled to an easy 86-53 victory over Wabash last Wednesday night.
On an evening filled with a lot of excitement there might have been some expectation of opening jitters on the part of both teams. The home team Golden Eagles coming off a sectional championship last year did not show any sign of nerves racing out to a 23-5 led at the end of the first quarter. The Apaches would settle down some in the second period, but struggled with Oak Hill’s height and pressure leading to a 43-26 deficit at halftime.
In the second half Oak Hill would continue to pour in the points behind their big men inside with five players at 6’ 5” or taller. The game was a coming party for sophomores Caleb Middlesworth and David Arens who would pace the Eagles with 24 points and 18 points respectively. Seniors Caleb Maggard and Christian Livingston added 15 points and 14 pints as part of the 86-53 route. Oak Hill also won the JV game 51-46.
Oak Hill starts the season with a record of 1-0, and travels to Manchester on Saturday. Wabash drops to 0-1 and hosts Madison Grant on Saturday.
