In a battle of grant county rivals Madison Grant defeated Oak Hill 45-35 in girls’ basketball action on Saturday night.
The lady Argylls took advantage of a cold start by the lady Golden Eagles to grab an early 6-0 lead. Oak Hill responded by closing the first quarter on a 9-0 run for a slim three point lead 9-6.The second quarter saw a combination of defense and turnovers that sent both teams to the halftime break tied at 18.
In the third period Madison Grant took control of the game using Oak Hill turnovers forge ahead by the end of the quarter 28-20. The Eagles were not done as they made a furious comeback led by seniors Toni Lautzenheiser and Abby Scott to cut the deficit to two at 37-35 with 1:30 remaining. Madison Grant sophomore Danyelle Hutson can through down the stretch making six of her team leading 12 points to seal the 45-35 victory. Juniors Lauren McGuire and Savannah Leas added 10 points apiece for the Argylls. Scott led Oak Hill with 12 points and Lautzenheiser added 10 points.
Madison Grant improves to 2-2 and 1-0 in the CIC and will host Wabash on Tuesday. Oak Hill falls to 3-2, and hosts Southwood on Tuesday.
