Oak Hill wins over Northfield

After a disappointing loss to Marion last Saturday Oak Hill got back on the winning side with a 63-37 victory over Northfield in high school girls’ basketball action Thursday night.
The lady Golden Eagles exploded out of the gate in the first quarter with a 14-3 lead early. The Norsmen came back with several three point baskets to shave the Oak Hill margin to 18-15 by the end of the opening period.
Senior Toni Lautzenheiser picked up the scoring load for the Eagles in the second quarter and her hot shooting allowed her finish the half with 16 points. Oak Hill combined a stifling half-court defense that held Northfield to six points with Lautzenheiser’s efforts to take a 33-21 advantage to the locker room at halftime.
In the second half the Eagles used to a significant height advantage over the Norsemen to slowly pull away in the third quarter to a 50-33 bulge. Senior Abby Scott’s sharpshooting will help the increase the lead to 25 points in the final quarter on the way to the 63-40 win. Lautzenheiser paced Oak Hill with 25 ad Scott chipped in 19. Freshman Kayla Robey grabbed seven rebounds and Sophomore Kristin Dubois dished out six assists. Oak Hill also won the JV game 22-17 in double overtime.
Oak Hill, who improves their record to 2-1, host Taylor next Tuesday. Northfield drops to 0-2 and travels to Eastbrook on Wednesday.
