Missiissinewa turned in a dominating performance by defeating Oak Hill 3-0 by scores of 25-4, 25-15, and 25-13 in the opening round match of the Grant 4 volleyball tournament at home Saturday afternoon.
Mississinewa jumped on Oak Hill early in the first game 11-3 behind the devastating kills of senior Hanna McClure. The Indians then scored 14 of the final 15 points in the east lopsided 25-4 rout of the Golden Eagles.
Oak Hill showed some life in game two grabbing the lead at 4-2. The two teams then struggled for an advantage before the Indians grabbed a slim 12-10 edge. Sophomore Erica Foy of the Indians took over with strong net play to spark a 13-5 run that closed out the game at 25-15.
The home team carried the momentum from game two into the final game allowing to them explode ahead 12-3. The Golden Eagles couldn’t slow down the Indians as they expanded their lead to 21-7. Oak Hill then a last mine rally to pull to 24-13, but came up short 25-13.
Oak Hill now has a record of 9-15 and 3-4 in the CIC will face Eastbrook in the consolation match. Mississinewa now holds a record of 23-3 and 5-1 in the CIC. Mississinewa will take on Madison Grant in the championship match
Eastbrook downed Oak Hill 3-0 by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-12 in the consolation game of the Grant 4 volleyball tournament at Mississinewa Saturday night.
After the Golden Eagles started the first game with a 3-1 lead, the Panthers went on a 12-3 run to take a 13-6 advantage. Oak Hill fell behind 19-10 and tried to crawl back to 23-17 behind the three kills of sophomore Ajua Smith, but Eastbrook held on to the lead because of powerful net play of senior Courtney Haynes to gain the 25-19 win.
Game two appeared it might be another easy victory for Eastbrook as the Panthers jumped to 4-1 start, but Oak Hill responded to tie the set at 10. The Panthers then used a 8-2 spurt to grab control again at 18-12. The Eagles were not done yet, as they used the hot serving of freshman Brittany McCorkle to tie the game again 19-19. Eastbrook was not be denied as rattled off six of the final 10 points for the 25-23 triumph
The final game was all Eastbrook as the Panthers exploded to 7-1 early lead. Oak Hill used a 7-4 run to close within three points 11-8. At this point the Eagles ran out of gas and Eastbrook closed the game on a 14-4 run in route to the 25-12 victory.
Oak Hill’s record drops to 9-16 and 3-4 in the CIC and they will travel to Northfield on Monday. Eastbrook improves to 9-13 and 1-4 in the CIC goes on the road at Elwood on Tuesday.
