Oak Hill earned a hard fought victory over Blackford 3-0 with scores of 25-14, 28-26 and 25-22 in a clash of CIC foes in high school volleyball at Blackford Thursday night.
The Golden Eagles broke open the first game that was tied at 5-5 with a 11-3 run to take a commanding 16-8 lead. The home standing Bruins tried to rally, but could get no closer as Oak Hill cruised to the easy 25-14 win.
After allowing the visitors to jump ahead 6-3, Blackford battled back in game two to tie the game 7-7. The rest of the game was fiercely contested seesaw battle that was tied at 18 before Oak Hill jumped out 21-18 advantage and the home responded quickly to gain a tie at 21 . The affair remained tied at 26 before the Eagles scored the last two points to secure the set.
In the final game of the night, the Bruins proved that would they not go away easily by grabbing a 9-7 lead. At this point it was Oak Hill’s turn to comeback with a 16-8 run to pull away to a 23-17 lead. The young Bruins rallied to within two at 24-22 before succumbing to the Eagles 25-23. Oak Hill received good performances from senior Toni Lautzenheiser with seven kills, senior Christina Webb five kills, and sophomore Kristin Dubois four kills and 3 aces.
Oak Hill, improves to 9-14 record and 3-4 in the CIC takes on Mississinewa in the Grant 4 tournament on Saturday at Mississinewa. Blackford hosts Adams Central on Monday.
Oak Hill JV defeated Blackford in two sets; 25-9, 25-8. Baily Brewer had 6 aces. Adrianna Trexler had 4 kills. Khloe Price added 3 kills.
