The 8th ranked Oak Hill Golden Eagle football continued their undefeated with an easy 45-8 victory over the winless Blackford Bruins.
With just under six minutes to go in the first quarter junior quarterback Adam McDivitt, who had missed the last two games with a leg injury, opened the scoring on a 72 yard touchdown run to cap a 90 yard drive. Junior kicker Henry Ollmann added the extra point to make the score 7-0.
In the second quarter McDivitt continued a dominating first half with a 31 TD run with just under seven minutes to go in the first half. Again Ollmann added the PAT to make the score 14-0. At the Blackford possession, McDivitt intercepted senior quarterback Chase Mahan’s pass and returned it 40 yards to the Bruins’ 30 yard line. Three plays later McDivitt scored his third rushing touchdown of the half with a 12 yard scamper. Ollmann’s successful extra point pushed the Oak Hill advantage to 21-0 with under 2 minutes to go in the first. The Golden Eagle defense then forced a Bruin punt to give McDivitt and their offense one more scoring chance with 36 seconds in the half. McDivitt then connected on a 19 yard pass with senior wide receiver Caleb Maggard. Two plays later, Oak Hill successfully completed a hook and lateral trick play with McDivitt passing to Maggard for 17 yards and Maggard making a pitch to senior halfback Christian Livingston who ran 26 yards for another touchdown. Again Ollmann split the uprights for a lead 28-0 with under 10 seconds to go in the half.
The third quarter was a sloppy affairs with Eagles and Bruins combining for six fumbles with two each being recovered by the respective defenses. Following an Oak Hill fumble Blackford drive 64 yards for the only score of the third quarter on a 30 yard rush by Mahan. The Bruins added the two point conversion on a pass from senior Devon Kirkwood to sophomore Carson Kinder.
Oak Hill responded with a touchdown by junior fullback Nolan King on a five yard run early in the fourth quarter to expand the lead to 35-8. King was filling in for senior Joel Durkes, the state’s leading rusher who did not play in the game after the first quarter. Durkes was held out due to a minor shoulder injury according to head coach Bud Ozmun. Blackford fumbled on the next possession and the Eagle defense recovered on the Bruins 35 yard line. Livingston scored the final touchdown of the night three plays later on a 25 yard rush. Ollmann booted his sixth straight extra point to make the score 42-8 with under nine minutes to go in the game. Following a Bruins punt on the next possession, Ollmann connected on a 36 yard field goal to finish the night’s scoring
Both Blackford and Oak Hill will participate in the CIC day at Ball State on Saturday, September 26, 2015. Blackford plays Frankton at 1 p.m. followed by Oak Hill versus Elwood at 4 p.m.
